Principles of Video Design: Color

  1. Keep your colors choices simple and restrained.
  2. Use complimentary colors for greater visual impact
  3. Don’t be tempted to use all your favorite colors. Instead choose a palette of 3-4 coordinating colors. Generally a primary color (or dominant), secondary color, and accent color.
  4. White, yellow and black stand out best against most backgrounds.
  5. Consider the background color when shooting your onscreen talent. Avoid having them wear colors that blend in with the background.
  6. Consider muted colors rather than full-intensity hues. It’s easier on the eyes, and gives your video a more professional quality.
